Children's Program

Recognizing the effect that domestic violence has on children, the Domestic Abuse Council has based its “Hugs & Love” Children’s Program on providing a non-threatening environment in which children grow and thrive. With the parent/guardian’s permission, advocates assist with evaluating a child's needs and providing a safe space for them to talk about their experiences.

Advocates work with children individually and in group settings. The Hugs & Love Children’s Center provides childcare while mothers attend education sessions and support groups. The program has a strong emphasis on teaching children how to be safe from violence and provides alternatives to violent behaviors.
